Empowering Young Readers

Our structured phonics program at Alphabetic Principles is ideal for kindergarten through third-grade students. It's especially beneficial for early childhood education, those seeking dyslexia awareness, homeschooling families, and children with learning differences who tend to guess at words.


6 - Week Scope & Sequence

Weeks 1–3: Sound Foundations

Focus: Phonemic awareness & short vowels

  • Identification of initial and final sounds
  • Short vowels (a, e, i, o, u)
  • Segmenting & blending CVC words - orally with sound boxes 
  • Orthographic Mapping of decodable words only (no guessing!)

Outcome:
Students can blend and read simple words accurately.

 

Weeks 4–5: Blends & Word Expansion

Focus: Initial & final blends

  • bl, cl, st, nd, mp, etc.
  • 4–5 sound words, with short vowel sound review) 
  • Reading short decodable passages

Outcome:
Students read with smoother blending and less hesitation.

 

Week 6: Review

Focus: Automaticity + confidence

  • Review all learned pattern
  • Reading connected text
  • Word attack strategies

Outcome:
Improved fluency, accuracy, and reading confidence.

 

$60/wk due before class each week or $300 ($50 non-refundable) paid in full due before February 11th.

 

Prerequisite: Students should know their letter names and sounds. If you are not sure and would like an informal assessment, please schedule a 30-minute class or a free consultation. 1:1 thirty-minute classes are also available.
